During the Khmer Rouge regime, many able-bodied women were recruited from many provinces to work in the salt fields in Kampot province. The Khmer Rouge distributed salt produced in Kampot throughout Cambodia, which served as the main diet for Cambodians who were forced to do hard labour. Yong Sokhom, a survivor of Salted-Farm Female Force, describes the experiences of forced labor she had when she was 17 years old.
