Koh Tang War

Koh Tang Island

By Chhun Bunchhai, Kuoch Masy, Yama Socheata

Located about 50 km from the coast of Sihanouk Province, Koh Tang held a crucial role as a military base for Cambodian Navy soldiers. Forty-three years ago, it was the site of much bloodshed. During what is now known as the “Mayaguez incident”, bombs and gunfire rained down on the island. This lasted about three days and killed many Khmer Rouge and American Navy soldiers during the last battle of the Vietnam War.
