Hotel Du Gouvernement/ The Council for the Development of Cambodia
Pol Pot’s accommodation and work has its codename as Munti K-1. However, the information about the Khmer Rouge leaders was very secretive. No one knows where it was. American journalist Elizabeth Becker interviewed Pol Pot at the Hotel Du Gouvernement, located not far from Wat Phnom. Even at almost the end of the Khmer Rouge regime, Pol Pot also met the late King Norodom Sihanouk at that hotel building to convinced him to demand United Nations support against Vietnamese invasion. The building was originally a residence of senior French officials in the French colonial period and later became a hotel for delegates to the newly independent Cambodian government in the Sangkum Reastr Niyum. The Hotel Du Gouvernement is currently the office of one important government institution, the Council for the Development of Cambodia.
